Ready to Give Him Back

Bfsmall One word that really described Boomer well was “social”.  He absolutely loved to be around people. If he was ever inside the house and a group of kids were playing outside the house, he would go crazy whining and barking until somebody let him out. He would then romp his way over to the crowd and was overjoyed to finally be in on the fun.

When we first visited him he was always in the scrum with his brothers and sisters.

So when we took him home, and went to bed that first night, he was lonely.  And he howled like a wolf. I couldn’t sleep. I used earplugs and turned the fan on. I tried everything. He wouldn’t stop howling.

We tried moving his cage up to our room. He was in a cage so he wouldn’t go to the bathroom while we were asleep. But that didn’t work either. He wanted to get out of the cage and hang out with us.

So we stuck him all the way down in the basement, in the boiler room, with loud fans turned on. I could still hear him howling through the air ducts!

Boomer was “my dog”, and I had told Katy that I’d take care of everything. So every night I ended up visiting him to stop his howling. This went on for weeks. I became absolutely exhausted, to the point where I seriously considered giving him back.

I mean seriously!  It was awful.

I don’t remember how long it took for him to stop, but of course he eventually learned that he could sleep and we’d see each other in the morning!
