Matthew, Boomer and I returned to our favorite adventure spot, the Pemi Wilderness, to hike into the 13 Falls Campsite. It is a long hike (over 8 miles) from the Liberty Woods trailhead (where the picture above was taken) to the campsite, so our plan was to do a three day / two night trip. We paused at a familiar bridge on the Wilderness trail…..

After three miles we reached the bridge near Franconia Falls, and Boomer stopped to take a drink before we crossed the bridge and continued on our journey.
The hike in was very boggy and swampy, but also quite beautiful!
Matthew paused by the pond to check the map……
When we made it to the campsite, Boomer struck a pose before we crawled into the tent for the night!
On the following day we awoke and began our ascent up to the Garfield Ridge Trail, on our way to the top of Mt. Garfield. Here is a picture of Matthew and Boomer on the steep trail on the way up.
As we neared the top, Boomer took in the gorgeous views of the White Mountains.
I couldn’t help but take a few pictures of Boomer’s gorgeous big head against the foliage backdrop!
Then it was Matthew’s turn to take a few pictures of Boomer and I, with the 2nd one showing Boom resting near the fire tower on the top of Mt. Garfield.
We hiked back down the Garfield Ridge tail and paused for a snack before we began our descent back to the 13 Falls Tentsite.
Boomer rested several times on the way down the trail…..
When Matthew and I had left 13 Falls, we were the only tenters. When we got back, every site was full!!! I made a big mistake by not putting Boomer on the leash. When we returned, he made a beeline toward our neighbors tent. They had put all their food on the ground around their tent, and Boomer ran over and gobbled up an entire stick of wrapped cheddar cheese. I pried it out of his mouth and gave it back to them after I wiped off his slobber. They weren’t too happy with us.
That night it started to rain, but somehow Matthew lit a fire as the rain poured down around us, using only a flint (no matches!). We had left Boomer in the tent so we wouldn’t have to smell wet dog all night!
On the next day we hiked back out, and Matthew took a great picture of Boom and I re-crossing the bridge at Franconia Falls, and then another one along the Wilderness Trail.

I snapped one more picture along the Wilderness Trail of Matthew and Boomer.

We made it back! It was a gorgeous trip. Boomer, as usual, crashed in the back of the Suburban for our ride home.
